Definition of natural wines

Naturalist
Natural wine is wine which has literally made itself from organically grown grapes. Can a wine make itself, you may ask? Why not, you harvest the grapes, crush them and let them ferment and you have wine. This is fine winemaking at its purest, most honest form as an antidote to a world of soulless, manufactured, Parkerized, fruit bombs. If mother nature gives us a difficult vintage, we should be able to taste it!
Natural wines are what some writers reffer as terroir wines. Pure expression of the place where the vines grow.
The wines are made with as little intervention as possible, either in the way the grapes are grown (usually biodynamically) or the way they are crafted into wine. To make a difference between organic and natural wine, it useful to remember that organic wine is organic in the sense of having been produced from organically grown grapes, but it may be subject to technical manipulation in the winemaking process.
Natural wine is usually produced by winemakers who are small, passionate and independent and offer an alternative to the “international-style” vinification.
