I had this recently at the Swan in West Malling, Kent. Don't be put off by the oxidised deep straw colour, it's fresh and gloriously complex, at first fino like nose, then this lifts and some fruit and a lovely fresh lightness appears on the palate - the 14% alcohol is worn lightly, as is the richness. Very satisfying and complex drink. I couldn't give it 5 stars as it's pricey and the first bottle was definitely maderised but the wine waiter was on the ball and replaced it without any fuss.
I was lucky enough to win this wine in the Wine Quiz.
I was unfamiliar with the producer, and didn't know what to expect - what I found was an elegant, full, aromatic wine, backed up with a slightly orangey acidity. It improved overnight in the bottle, which suggests it might have a way to go...
There was one white in particular that I loved, a slightly oxidized wine that rang out with oranges and flowers and rocky minerals. Some at the table disliked it, this was a polarizing wine. But it was without question my favorite white wine of the tasting. And lo and behold, it turned out to be the 2007 Domaine Henri Milan Baux de Provence Les Grand Blanc
