Love the rhubarb drink. Review by Geoff (Posted on 27/01/2012)Love the rhubarb drink. Reminds me of ratafia. Do you think this would work with honey as the sweetener?

Good Cretan Olive Oil Review by Apache (Posted on 25/01/2012)I bought this olive oil from the farmers market in Alexandra Palace. The oil is really smooth with lovely green grassy notes and it does taste low in acidity. It reminds me of a similar homemade Sicilian olive oil I once tried - pretty close although not exactly the same.

Great stuff. Review by Shai Maestro (Posted on 11/01/2012)Light and crisp, but manages to have all the smoothness you like about "premium" vodkas. Great stuff only the price tag is slightly steep.

This is getting better as time goes by. Review by Donald Byrd (Posted on 11/01/2012)Pronounced and developed notes of caramel, nuts, dried currants, prunes, caramelized brown sugar and toffee. Medium to full body with medium acidity and a long finish. Very good.
-
I found it Review by The Flying Shepherd (Posted on 10/01/2012)I've been on the look out for Chenas. The appellation is next Moulin-à-Vent, and, like Moulin, is one of the more full-bodied Beaujolais Crus and also like a Moulin will age well.

Indigenous Grape Review by Zelas (Posted on 04/01/2012)Mavrud (Bulgarian: мавруд, from Greek, mavro, "black") is a red wine grape that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines, indigenous to the region of Thrace in Bulgaria. The grape has been described as a characterful, low-yielding, small-berried and late-ripening grape capable of producing tannic, spicy wine with a potential for ageing.

This is really coming into its own. Review by Julien (Posted on 14/12/2011)On the palate juicy dark fruits like ripe cassis and blackberries, exclusive oak and a little sweetness. Long finish. Overall a full bodied wine which is on the brink of opening itself a bit.

2005 was better Review by Weill (Posted on 07/12/2011)This is nowhere near as good as the 05 that got the same score.

Every bit as good as the 2009 vintage Review by Haidu (Posted on 07/12/2011)Very ripe and sweet fruit - plum, raspberry and dark cherry. After a little time in the glass there are notes of moss, mineral and violets. For all its immediate appeal there’s chalky, saline structure lurking just below the surface along with some meatiness. Every bit as good as the 2009 vintage with a little lighter.

Lots of ripe fruit Review by Teirn (Posted on 22/11/2011)Lots of ripe fruit, with blackberry and black currant flavors cutting through the palate, plus chocolate, mocha and spices in the mix. Long, robust finish. Excellent. From now until 2020.

2011 Beaujolais Nouveau Review by Michael McLeer (Posted on 22/11/2011)There is a layer of tannins here that adds a dry edge to what is otherwise a sweetly fruity wine. It is full, with juicy strawberry flavours. Graffiti-inspired label painted by Brooklyn artist Michael McLeer, a.k.a. Kaves.

Urban Foodie Review by Zelas (Posted on 22/11/2011)Somewhere high on a hill is a man who makes gin, Sacred Gin. That man is Ian Hart, that hill is Highgate, and the gin is a real London gin and utterly delectable to boot.
From the outside it looks like any other family home in this North London suburb of large square houses. But inside this house holds a special secret, there are glass flasks and coils, rubber tubes, liquid nitrogen streams and many unusual liquids bubbling about - from darkest amber to purest crystal clear - because, in this house, a master distiller is at work.
Before I got there I was a little unsure of quite what I’d find – a small factory distillery perhaps? – and was quite delighted to discover this sort of overgrown chemistry lab in a back kitchen, with the pump housed in the garden shed (all properly authorised and certified of course). Although it may look like a mad scientist kind of set up, Ian is more like a flavour alchemist, and the spirit he produces is about as far from home brew as a vintage champagne is from Strongbow.
Ian has always loved wine and spirits, he’s been collecting wine since he was 18, and has a fine, fine palate, coupled with a passion and curiosity that has urged him into setting up this boutique micro distillery.

Classic Arzuaga Review by Xavier (Posted on 22/11/2011)I've been following this wine since vintage 1996. Consistently Arzuaga Crianza has been my favourite Spanish wine. This vintage is not an exception although 2006 was the one I liked most. Sweet fruit with a medium bodied mouthfeel. Ripe and oaky palate.

Not as good as 2009 Review by Nick (Posted on 22/11/2011)Vintage 2010. Deep ruby colour. Red and blue fruit aromas on the nose. Not as good as 2009 but still very enjoyable wine.

2011 looks to be as wonderful as 2009. Review by Burgundy (Posted on 19/11/2011)2011 looks to be as wonderful as 2009. It will drink well for a couple of years!

Mmm, it's good but ... Review by M. Roach (Posted on 18/11/2011)So I finally tasted it. What can I say, if this was a properly made wine with some maturation it would have been a really, really good wine. Right now, it's young, vibrant (well, maybe less than last year) and quite cherry sweet. I had a bottle and that's enough for me. On a second thought I might try t chilled. Quite pricey, but so is everything these days.

Sicily Review by Ven (Posted on 17/11/2011)This little wine is absolutely lovely with grilled barbecue meat.
-
Stunning Review by BritishChick (Posted on 09/11/2011)Wow, what a wine!!! The discovery of the year. Honey and beeswax with savory herbs, ginger spice, and apple skin. The palate is full with spicy, slightly oxidative finish. Beautiful acidity. A lot better than most Savennières I've had. Naturally made: no additives, inoculations, etc.
-
Excellent with further potential. Review by Chimera (Posted on 09/11/2011)Trelans 2007 shows peaches and white flowers on the nose. The palate is creamy and more ftuity than 2006. The finish is long and provides further interest with a herbal note.
-
What can I say Review by Paul Hillie (Posted on 08/11/2011)Rich texture, likorice on the nose, currant, spicy, well balanced. This 2009 drinks extremely well right now, can only imagine how good itll be in 5 years.. a must buy! I LOVE IT.

Good value. Review by Tanushka (Posted on 08/11/2011)Rich yellow color. The nose is just delicious, displaying aromas of ripe lemon, honey, brioche, nuts and apple compote. Sharp mousse covers the palate and stays for a good while. Lots of baked apples and brioche on the palate. Very dry and intense with strong acidity. Nice, developed taste.
-
Slightly off-dry Review by Torronto (Posted on 08/11/2011)This wine is elegant and quite perfumy on the nose. The palate is slightly off-dry. Good with spicy asian cuisine.
-
Fresh Review by Dufay (Posted on 08/11/2011)The color is golden yellow. The nose, complex and refined with a slight oxidation. Mix of orange zest confit with almond and white flower fading to a very delicate fruit caramel. The mouth is surprisingly fresh revealing notes of grapefruit and a range dominated by floral honeysuckle.
-
Pleasantly surprised. Review by Carmel (Posted on 07/11/2011)Pleasantly surprised. Not a huge fan of whites, but I really enjoy this one.

Post Gazette, 29th January 2004 Review by Bruce May (Posted on 03/11/2011)“Graham’s 10-year old tawny is a beauty, with magnificent aromas of roasted nuts, spice and caramel. The toffee and caramel flavours are very rich and complex. The finish is sweet but with ample acidity for a delicious treat for the taste buds”.
Bruce May, Post Gazette, 29th January 2004 -
Wine Spectator, September 2003 Review by James Suckling (Posted on 03/11/2011)“This is rich on the nose, with candied fruit, fruitcake, toffee and maple syrup. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with a brilliant aftertaste of fruit and caramel. Lasts for minutes on your palate. I have always loved this tawny.”
James Suckling, Wine Spectator, September 2003 -
Better or worse? Review by Terence Blanchard (Posted on 03/11/2011)People in Beaujolais claim that this year is better even than the outstanding 2009! But they will say that, won't they! We'll see!

The name Review by Zelas (Posted on 03/11/2011)Legend contends that during the reign of Tsar Krum of Bulgaria, all vineyards were ordered destroyed. Later, a lion escaped from its cage and terrorized the city. However, a fearless young man named Mavrud (now the name of a wine grape) confronted and slew the lion. The king summoned Mavrud's mother to learn the source of such courage. She said she had secretly saved a vine, made wine, and that this was the source of Mavrud's bravery. Tsar Krum ordered the vineyards replanted

Tom Review by Black wine (Posted on 29/10/2011)Almost blackish, deep red colour. Complex aromas of black berry fruit, hints of leather and spice on the nose. Strong body, strong, elegant tannins on the palate, the fruit of ripe berry fruit, spices, leather, tobacco and mocha. A complex, multifaceted finish.

A slightly more successful vintage Review by (Jay Miller - Wine Advocate # 194 - May 2011) (Posted on 27/10/2011)The 2009 Camins del Priorat is more perfumed than the 2008 as well as more structured. Alvaro Palacios established his namesake winery in 1989. The flagship L’Ermita made its debut in 1993. Finca Dofi and L’Ermita vineyards are farmed biodynamically. All of the wines are bottled without filtration. In 2008 Palacios was the last grower in Priorat to harvest, waiting out rains that diluted other growers’ fruit.
It appears that 2009 was a slightly more successful vintage for Alvaro Palacios (and most Priorat producers) than was 2008. All of the 2009s were tasted from barrel samples at the Bodega in January 2011.

Incredible millésime Review by Georges Duboeuf (Posted on 21/10/2011)“At the end of August we declared 2011 to be an incredible millésime in Beaujolais. Today I’d say, incredible but true! Having tasted several hundred samples, I’m astounded by this terrific millésime. It looks like this will top every excellent year in the Beaujolais wine hall of fame: complex, serious, solid, generous, rich in delicious flavours”

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc Review by (Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate - Aug 2009) (Posted on 25/07/2011)The 2007 Guado al Tasso screams of Bolgheri. Sweet grilled herbs, mocha, spices and black cherry jam are woven into a generous, expansive frame. There is a wonderful sense of richness and warmth to the fruit that carries through to the round harmonious finish, where clean, minerally notes add freshness. This is simply gorgeous today, but it is young, and the oak needs to integrate. Still, it is impossible not to admire the 2007 Guado al Tasso. In 2007 Guado al Tasso is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The late ripening Cabernet Franc, used in place of Syrah for the first time in 2007, adds a measure of freshness that had often been missing in previous vintages.

An unique wine. Review by Tiravino (Posted on 21/06/2011)I am big fun of the Primorje/Fruili area. I believe is one of the top wine regions in Europe. Especially because they produce unique wines and they stick to their tradition.
Vitovska is a wine like no other, however it’s inviting, easy to access and enjoy.
Cotar's wine has an impressive minerality. Chamomile, exotic and ripe fruit on the nose, at the same time that express fine herbs aromas.
Its long, complex and refreshing.
It could much white meats, but also game as hare and Pheasant.
Thanks Plamen for making such wine available!!!

Don’t drink this too cold Review by Joode (Posted on 21/06/2011)Strawberry, pear, sweet pink grapefruit and a touch of citrus. Mild tannins. A perfect match for food, enjoy it with spicy foods, Indian cuisine, salads, fish, chicken, pork, bbq ribs or bbq chicken — just about anything. As with most quality rose wines, don’t drink this too cold, or you’ll miss all the fun.

Wine of the week Review by Jancis Robinson (Posted on 20/06/2011)This is a style of wine I fell in love with when I first tasted it. It's quintessentially marine, dry and has a really appetite-inducing scent without too much alcohol, made from the same grape as Vinho Verde's Alvarinho over the border in Portugal. But in my experience, although it's unusual to find a bad one, it can be difficult to find a really outstanding one.
-
Good balance Review by Anton (Posted on 20/06/2011)Light golden colour. Opulent nose, well balanced between oak and fruit with a nice mineral note. In the mouth it is full, savoury with a nice good balance between acidity and softness.

When to Drink : 2011 to 2018. Review by Jancis Robinson (Posted on 15/06/2011)Date tasted : 18-Jun-2009 / Published : 25-Sep-2009. Pale ruby colour with a pale rim - looks like Sangiovese! Meaty, heady, integrated nose. Quite delicate on the palate though with a complete spread across the palate. Dry tannins on the finish still but with real life to it. When to Drink : 2011 to 2018.

Spicy and rustic Review by Emmanuel (Posted on 04/06/2011)Absolutely lovely drop with an amazing balance between the fruit and tannins for a wine at such a young age.
-
The flavours coming off this are extraordinary Review by Victoria Moore (Posted on 31/05/2011)And if you can't drink La Stoppa Gutturnio Vivace Frizzante 2007 alongside mouthfuls of gamey salami, then consider other earthy options - a proper risotto, chunky terrine, chicken liver crostini - to wash down with this blend of barbera and bonarda. We poured some into a simple risotto made with onions, chicken stock, parmesan and loads of butter. "The flavours coming off this are extraordinary," cried the cook as she stirred. The risotto was, too. If we'd used a more commercial, fruity wine, it would just have tasted of soapy alcohol and a little vacant.

The perfect BBQ sparkling number Review by The Revolution (Posted on 26/05/2011)I was very suspicious about this one at first when the shop assistant recommended to me but I'm now glad I listened to him. The wine was the talk of the evening. Everyone loved it. It's fresh, it's delicious and most of the bubbles are indeed PINK!
p.s. Could do with a slightly cheaper price though. -

-
Very elegant Review by WineZen (Posted on 13/05/2011)Perfume and floral notes on the nose. On the palate is semidry but really well balanced by lively acidity. We had it in a restaurant in Budapest where the sommelier informed us that the wine was biodynamic. So it created an interest to look for more wines like this.

An accessible Bordeaux Review by Red Seal (Posted on 07/05/2011)A medium-bodied, approachable claret with juicy berry fruit backed up by savoury tobacco notes. Classically proportioned and elegantly balanced.

How to serve this one Review by Schiff (Posted on 07/05/2011)Turn the bottle upside down and give it a small stroke before serving. This will even the natural subtle sediment of this unfiltered wine, giving full body to each glass. Lots of mineral, gravel, herbs/roots and white pepper flavours. Unusual but good.

We liked it very much Review by Beethoven (Posted on 04/05/2011)It needs sufficient breathing before you can touch it, we allowed 12 hours and only then we liked it. So all and all, it needs time but it's good value now, well it might not be tomorrow with the inflation rising everyday.

Wonderfully ripe and seductive Review by Antonio Galloni (Posted on 30/12/2010)Oct 2010 Antonio Galloni 95 Drink: 2012 - 2027
Antinori's 2007 Tignanello is wonderfully ripe and seductive in its dark cherries,
flowers, spices, tobacco, sage, cedar, mint and minerals. This is as
opulent a Tignanello as I have ever tasted but there is just enough
acidity and structure from the Sangiovese to keep things from going over
the top. The wine's richness and warmth are such that in a blind tasting
I mistook the 2007 Tignanello for a wine from Maremma! The dense,
muscular fruit follows through to an impeccable finish with no hard
edges and impossibly fine, silky tannins. Simply put, the 2007 is a
magnificent Tignanello. The 2007 Tignanello is 80% Sangiovese aged in
300-liter French oak barrels (1/3 new), 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5%
Cabernet Franc, both aged in 100% new 225-liter French oak barriques.
Anticipated maturity: 2012-2027.
I continue to be amazed at the high average quality Antinori achieves
across a production that exceeds a whopping 20 million bottles per year.
This is a fabulous set of new releases. Long-time Oenologist Renzo
Cotarella could certainly have rested on his laurels; after all he is
already one of Italy's most celebrated winemakers. Instead, Cotarella
continues to improve quality in a meaningful way. The highlights are the
2007s, which are off the charts. I first sampled Antinori's 2007
Tignanello and Solaia two years ago, when they were still separate wines
from individual parcels, but even then it was clear these were going to
be special wines. Tasting Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon from the
Tignanello and Solaia vineyards, both in Chianti Classico, was an
unforgettable lesson in the uniqueness of each of these fabulous
terroirs. The Solaia vineyard in particular is clearly one of Italy's
greatest sites. Everything I tasted was loaded with personality and
sheer character. One of the recent major changes at Antinori is the
separate vinification of component wines for Guado al Tasso, Tignanello
and Solaia, which began with the 2004 vintage. In 2007 Cotarella took
that approach even further, with small parcel-by-parcel vinifications
that allowed for maximum flexibility when the final blend for each wine
was ultimately assembled. The 2007 harvest brings with it a number of
additional changes. Syrah has been eliminated from Guado al Tasso in
favor of Cabernet Franc, a grape that is proving to be exceptionally
well-suited to the Tuscan coast. If the 2007 is any indication, Guado al
Tasso is taking on a much more Bordeaux-like personality. The estate is
also gradually moving toward slightly larger barrels and less new oak
for their Sangioveses. -
Wonderfully ripe and seductive Review by Wine Advocate (Posted on 30/12/2010)Oct 2010 Antonio Galloni 95 Drink: 2012 - 2027

Very ripe vintage Review by Antonio Galloni (Posted on 29/12/2010)RP 96 - Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate 96 Points The 2002 Dom Perignon is at first intensely floral, with perfumed jasmine that dominates the bouquet. With time in the glass the wine gains richness as the flavors turn decidedly riper and almost tropical. Ripe apricots, passion fruit and peaches emerge from this flashy, opulent Dom Perignon. The wine's volume makes it approachable today, but readers in search of more complexity will want to cellar this for at least a few years to allow for some of the baby fat to drop off. Geoffroy describes the vintage as very ripe and adds that some of the Chardonnay showed the ill-effects of the hot growing season in it the somewhat burned, dehydrated fruit that came in that year. This bottle was disgorged in July, 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2032

Very good. Review by Anne-Sophie Mutter (Posted on 29/12/2010)Medium bodied on the palate, dry, intense tropical fruit, grapefruit, lime and mango fruit. Crisp finish. Very good.

Really impressed with this wine and I didn't think I was a Bojo Novo fan. Review by Scherzo (Posted on 17/12/2010)It's much darker and fuller than expected for a Nouveau. Better than last year, nose is very nice with light berries, cherries. Real nice for an afternoon drink.
-
Very nice modern style Syrah. Review by Respighi (Posted on 15/12/2010)Quite dense on the palate, with masses of ripe black fruits, sweet spices, cocoa, kirsch, violets and licorice, with a backbone of soft, sweet tannins and refreshing cherry-like acidity.
-
Rich, opulent berry fruit Review by YT (Posted on 15/12/2010)This was very open and seemed ready, if not already having turned a little bit tawny in colour. Rich, opulent berry fruit with hints of chocolate and mint and fine elegant tannins.

Discover great tea Review by Amber (Posted on 12/12/2010)I got one of these tea pots for my Christmas last year and love it so much I am buying my daughter one this Christmas.
They are neat , clean and so easy to use. I still use tea bags when I am in a rush, but If I have time to enjoy a cup then it has to be real, and Suki make this so easy. -
A little young Review by Kenny Dorham (Posted on 29/11/2010)Nice fruit and acidity. The nose was not very evident and took a while to give anything up. Still a little young but still a good value if you have some patience.

What a fine Beaurenard! Review by Georgi Cherkin (Posted on 25/11/2010)Nice sweet nose with licorice, smoke and raspberry. Palate is medium bodied showing grace and elegance.

More substantial that I'd expected from a Beaujolais Nouveau. Review by The Apprentice (Posted on 25/11/2010)This vintage 2010 seems more substantial that I'd expected from a Beaujolais Nouveau. Cherries, butter and caramel on the nose. The palate corresponds well but with a more cherry character. Good acidity that keeps it vibrant. Mineral tinged finish.
-
My favourite Pale Ale Review by Tanya (Posted on 23/11/2010)Preservative and additive free, Little Creatures Pale Ale is live-yeast conditioned in bottles and kegs for unmatched freshness and character. Bag loads of whole Chinook and Cascade hop flowers were sources from Washington and Oregon in the US as well as some local flowers from Tasmania are thrown at this beer. It's a little pricey here though.
-
This may sound like heresy Review by Sixty-Folk-Tales (Posted on 23/11/2010)Full of flavour but not to harsh on the pallet. Recommend for a beer with dinner or even just a social after work drink. This may sound like heresy, but I'll take a Little Creatures over a Sierra Nevada! Ha, I said it!

Wonderful, just wonderful Review by The Be Good Tanyas (Posted on 20/11/2010)Wonderful, just wonderful from the south part of the Champagne region. Biodynamic cultivation since 1989, certified by Ecocert and Demeter. Terroir of the Côte des Bar, clay and limestone, in favor of Black Pinot (90% of the vineyard), the rest is planted with Chardonnay.

Better than 2009 Review by Zelas Wines (Posted on 18/11/2010)We've just tasted it and to everybody's surprise we liked this vintage 2010 better than 2009 and vintage 2010 is supposed to be an average one according to the reports.

This 2009 vintage is incredible ... Review by VW Brothers (Posted on 16/11/2010)Notes of leather that are overtaken by the fruit (raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant) as soon as it gets some air.
On the palate, the wine is silky, elegant, round and fruity. The grapes feel ripe and well balanced between fruit and structure. The aftertaste is long and fades gently on the feeling of velvet ... This 2009 vintage is incredible ... -

Interesting fact about Beaujolais Review by Julian Waterfall (Posted on 13/11/2010)1. Beaujolais Nouveau owes its easy drinkability to a winemaking process called carbonic maceration—also called whole berry fermentation. This technique preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the wine, without extracting bitter tannins from the grape skins.
2. All the grapes in the Beaujolais region must be picked by hand.
3. Gamay (Gamay noir à Jus Blanc) is the only grape permitted for Beaujolais.
4. Beaujolais Nouveau is meant to be drunk young-in average vintages it should be consumed by the following May after its release.
5. Approximately 1/3 of the entire crop of the Beaujolais region is sold as Beaujolais Nouveau. -
Excellent choice Review by Johnny Hodges (Posted on 13/11/2010)Floral and fresh fruit of strawberries and raspberries on the nose. Medium bodied palate, fresh and vibrant. The Prioundo is an excellent choice, although a bit pricey. We got it with 20% off mixed case in the shop.

Like moelleux Review by Hubbard (Posted on 10/11/2010)Nice perfume on the nose. Soft, acidic melon-infused palate. A dry wine with the allure of a moelleux (a sweet or medium-sweet wine).
-
Brilliant Review by Wine Doctor by Chris Kissack (Posted on 10/11/2010)Much less expressive on the nose compared to Langoa, but certainly in possession of great purity, with fine and reserved black fruit character. Dark, heady, roasted-herb perfume, it is actually very expressive but it is also clear that this character lies on top of a much more solid and substantial wine with much deeper foundations. The palate is glorious; immediately expansive and yet tightly composed at the same time. Aromatic, perfumed, yet rich and creamy, but linear and well framed. I know I have preferred the remarkable Langoa in previous tasting but Léoville-Barton is beginning to show its breeding now. Brilliant. From a 2005 Bordeaux tasting at four years of age. 19+/20 (November 2009)

-
Excellent length on the finish Review by Hersch (Posted on 10/11/2010)The nose displays intense aromas of black fruit: blackberry, raspberry and mulberry, along with hints of violets and nutmeg. The palate is dense, with flavours of plums, liquorice, black cherry, coffee and spice.
-

Definitely worth the price Review by Lutoslawski (Posted on 06/11/2010)Notably elegant, and somewhat light bodied, this still offers copious sweet fruit, oak, and spice. Just a wonderful wine for the price.
-
Wine of the week Review by Jancis Robinson (Posted on 06/11/2010)The resulting blend, 13.5% alcohol, is sensationally aromatic in a way reminiscent of some tropical flowers (heady lilies?) - more so than the average Alsace Pinot Gris - and yet has the same sort of meaty, savoury undertow as a fine example from Alsace. It is certainly a much more serious wine than most of those labelled Pinot Grigio. And its naturally high acidity, 5.9 g/l, keeps the wine really refreshing. The residual sugar level of 7.3 g/l is low enough to be barely perceptible. It just means that the wine is rich enough to go well with Thai spiced dishes - or to be drunk comfortably as an aperitif. It should retain its liveliness over the next three years.

Easy-going Review by Gut Oggau (Posted on 29/10/2010)ATANASIUS is Wiltrude’s and Joshuari’s son. Like his sister Theodora he has a very affectionate and easy-going nature, typical of the inhabitants of the Austrian province Burgenland, and is an attractive, but not shallow young gentleman.

Terroir Review by Footprints (Posted on 28/10/2010)The slopes, like those of all the Grands Crus vines, are located on the right bank of the Serein River, in the south exposure. The soil is made of kimmeridgien marl-calcium carbonate (upper Jurassic), and is very rocky with white, dense clays.
Density plantation: 7000 vines/ha. Average age of the vines: 10 years. -

This can potentially become a very, very good wine. Review by Nancy Wilson (Posted on 27/10/2010)Right now, peach and grass on a nose that's quite lush and seductive. On the palate is really well balanced only the grassy grapefruitness is too obvious and upfront.
-
RARE WINE CO Review by Plamen (Posted on 27/10/2010)Due to its extraordinary quality and attractive price, Les Terrasses has acquired a passionate following all its own. Alvaro relies on some of Priorat’s finest small growers to produce this wine; to get the best fruit from the steepest and oldest vineyards, he has been known to offer them three times the going rate. Les Terrasses consists of approximately 30% Garnacha, 60% Cariñena, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Now we're talking Review by Jonathan Rossini (Posted on 27/10/2010)Great nose of earth, tobacco, dark fruits. On the palate, this is pretty full-bodied, with big sour cherry flavors. It's still pretty tannic, with a velvety mouth-coating feeling. Solid! Awesome wine...great QPR. BUT ... it needs more time.
-
Excellent QPR Review by Jonathan Sutton (Posted on 27/10/2010)We tried this in a restaurant in Central London. It showed much better than other wines we had for double the price. Cherry colored wine. Aromas of black fruits, forest floor and mineral. Fruity aftertaste and long finish.

-
Potentially outstanding Review by Art Blakey (Posted on 25/10/2010)Wonderful. Expressive of its terroir unlike that most can achieve.
-
Robert Parker 94 Points Review by Robert Parker (Posted on 25/10/2010)Another prodigious, but brutally tannic, offering from the affable Anthony Barton, the inky/blue/black-hued 2005 Leoville Barton exhibits a sensational perfume of charcoal, burning embers, underbrush, cedar, creme de cassis, and subtle toasty oak. Painfully concentrated (much like the 2000 was at the same stage), with full body, admirable purity, and several boatloads of muscular tannin, this St.-Julien is built for 50-60 years of cellaring. Its purity and precision are typical of today’s winemaking, but Barton is certainly not making a wine for near-term gratification.
-
Will purchase again. Review by Roland Kirk (Posted on 25/10/2010)Sweet fruit with a medium bodied palate. Fine tannins for a wine so young. Finish was short but tasty. Kept going back to this wine just to get another whiff of the gamey meat aromas.

Good but not great! Review by Mel Lewis (Posted on 16/10/2010)Alvaro was the last grower to harvest in Priorat during vintage 2008, and waited out rains that diluted other growers’ offerings. Small quantities, but outstanding wines. Only 8 months in oak, the grapes come from vineyards with very different exposures and age groups (between 10 to 50 years) planted on steep slopes and terraces of slate soil in the towns of Gratallops, Porrera, Torroja, Les Vilella, Bellmunt, El Molar, The Lloar and Poboleda.
A wine to enjoy in his youth, from the first year (not recommended to store more than 6 years). -
Delicious, serious wine. Review by Dice (Posted on 16/10/2010)Stuck it in the decanter for a couple of hours and drank the rest over 5 hours - Beautiful aromatics and well balanced and nuanced tones of white and black pepper, some bits of purple florals, bacon fat and black cherries

The best Geyeserville I've had yet Review by Deutsche Grammophon (Posted on 14/10/2010)Beautiful nose - deep fruit and some minerality. Good fruit balanced with a nice bit of acid. I think it is one of their best vintages yet.
-
Delicious. Off dry with good minerality and slightly acidic fruitiness lending it a crispness that makes it seem a little dryer than it probably is. I think it's also a natural wine, although not advertised as one here. So I might be wrong. It's very good.

Albariño Review by Promise (Posted on 12/10/2010)Nice acidity with citrus notes. Overall a pretty good example of an Albariño wine but could be cheaper. 87+ pts

THE WINE ADVOCATE / USA Review by Robert M. PARKER Jr (Posted on 06/10/2010)Less massive and full-bodied, it is still a big beast of a Châteauneuf. It offers a gorgeous nose of black fruits, smoke, and dried herbs. In the mouth, the wine is dense, with an unctuous texture, full body, and a long, concentrated, fruit-driven finish. While it may not equal the breadth and weight of the 1998, it is a top-flight Châteauneuf du Pape that will drink well for 15+ years? at the minimum.
Note : 92 / 100 -
Good complexity nice balance of fruit and minerality. Review by Alex Klein (Posted on 05/10/2010)Thick and full on the mid-palate with a long and spicy finish. Drink from now until 2015.

Enjoyable Review by Stuart (Posted on 30/09/2010)This is a nice typical natural wine. It has hints of redcurrents and bluberries and has a nice herby background. I agree with previous review it does need a bit of time and shaking up, but it was an enjoyable wine and went down very well indeed.

Excellent Review by Wee Man With a Bike (Posted on 25/08/2010)My first impression: excellent. I enjoy several Polish vodkas and I think this is up there with the best of them. You can find a better compromise between price and performance if you dig around for obscure Polish spirits, but if you don't mind paying a single malt price for a very good drink, go ahead. It is lovely.

Needs time to open Review by Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (Posted on 28/07/2010)If you are of the inpatient type as me, do NOT buy this wine now. It needs loads of time. Although young, it is nicely structured and integrated fruit and tannins.

Delicate and elegant. Bravo! Review by Pat Martino (Posted on 10/07/2010)Very fresh on the nose, elegant, white flowers, lime blossom, green tea, honeydew melon rind, small mineral side, a bit metallic. On the mouth it is large, bright acidity, refreshing, dry, crisp but not aggressive, no bitterness either. Lime blossoms, very good length.

Melon not Chardonnay Review by Plamen (Posted on 17/06/2010)The estate was created by members of the Montanet family and their friends who were willing to embark on this venture. They cleared the land replanted the slopes with 12.5 hectares of vines between 1987 and 1997. Some of the plots of land used to belong to Catherine Montanet's family.
Most of the vineyards are located on the most ancient strata, the Bajocian, or upper and lower Bathonian limestone and others on Liassic marlstone.
The intention is to make honest and authentic wines which reflect the distinctive character of their region and the climate of a particular year. Montanets do not resort to so-called "modern" artificial means in their wine making process in order to achieve this goal. Naturally enough, they hand-pick their grapes and the wine is produced using traditional skills. -
Purity of fruit Review by Gidon Kremer (Posted on 17/06/2010)This Crozes, from red clay soils with gravel and alluvial stones, is almost salty with notes of violets, olives, dill, blackberry and leather. There is some petillance (tiny bubbles) and practically no tannin.
This is the kind of wine the Romans drunk 2000 years ago so if it was good enough for them.... -
Best Mavrud Review by Charles Mingus (Posted on 12/06/2010)I have a holiday house in Bulgaria and have tasted many wines made from Mavrud grape but must admit this is perhaps the one with most character and superb drink-ability.

Jamie Good's Review (Wine Anorak) Review by Plamen (Posted on 12/06/2010)Jamie Good: Sweet, smooth, seductive cherry, plum and raspberry fruit with a youthful, vibrant personality, vivid fruit and nice freshness and definition. There’s just a hint of Syrah’s pepperiness. This is a wine to drink now to enjoy the pure, lush fruit. 92/100

Dangerously drinkable natural wine Review by Jamie Goode (Posted on 29/05/2010)No vintage declared (although the code 'L06' on the label indicates one), this light coloured red is utterly delicious and very drinkable. It has aromas of sweet cherry fruit with a sappy edge and lively purity, countered by an earthy, spicy note. The palate is bright and supple with a spicy, herby character that I often get in natural wines, as well as fresh, rather savoury cherry fruit.
Think somewhere between new Zealand Pinot Noir and a deliciously fresh Gamay from the Beaujolais, and you've got something of the character of this wine. It's light, fragrant and aromatic. 13.5% alcohol, but it tastes lighter than this. This is remarkable, considering that this wine is a 70/30 Syrah/Grenache blend from the Roussillon. 'Soif du Mal' translates, I guess, as a wicked thirst, and this is the sort of wine that will certainly satisfy a thirst. 91/100

More of a Blanc de Noir Review by Ich War Ein Berliner (Posted on 29/05/2010)Great bubbles, very light fruitiness and very dry. This is enjoyable...but nothing special and not exactly a Rose, more of a Blanc de Noir.

On bureaucracy’s influence ... Review by Louis Dressner (Posted on 28/05/2010)The curious thing here is that now all sorts of nontraditional Chianti grapes – including Merlot, Cabernet and other non-indigenous types – and barrique treatments are allowed for DOCG Chianti Classico.
At the same time a wine made just using Sangiovese and Canaiolo grapes grown in Chianti Classico soils and vinified in the method of older chianti traditions (tank or large Slavonian oak barrels) are deemed "atypical" and are being denied the right to use the Chianti or Chianti Classico name.
This is the state of the bureaucracy’s influence on the denominazioni of Italy (it's an even bigger problem in some appellations of France) and how the idea of the DOCG's identity, its " typicity", is being reshaped to a new market-based ideal that has no bearing on the traditions of the region.

Nice surprise Review by Peter-Lukas Graf (Posted on 20/05/2010)With a little bit of more structure this wine could have been up there with the best of Amarone wines. Anyhow it is a lot better than some other Amarone-LIKE wines!
-
Hedonistic and intellectual pleasure Review by Ivo Varbanov (Posted on 20/05/2010)The name En Blanc et Noir (In White and Black) is the title of a composition by Claude Debussy for two pianos composed in 1915. Being with my wife Fiamma classical concert pianists, we were rehearsing recently this beautiful piece and we found it particularly suitable to the wine we were making. I like also the unusual idea of a white (blanc) and red (noir) wine disguised as a rosé.

My wife's favourite Review by Maurice Chevalier (Posted on 09/05/2010)Lovely wine, showing loads of sugary stone fruit and honey on the palate, with just enough spice and acid to make it interesting.
-
Simply Perfect Review by Bebo Valdes (Posted on 08/05/2010)Besides being a lover of Italian cuisine are I love red Italian wines. Today I want to talk about this wine that I had the opportunity to know well in the six years of living in Trentino.
This is a red wine aged at least 24 months. Produced with grapes grown in the vineyards in the north part of Trentino and in particular between Mezzolombardo Mezzocorona and San Michele Adige.
The taste is complex, distinctive, reminiscent of ripe fruit with a pleasing hint of blueberry, plum and red currant, surrounded by spicy notes resulting from aging in wood. Full bodied, balanced, pleasantly tannic. -
Full-bodied Chenin Blanc Review by Hector Berlioz (Posted on 06/05/2010)A nose of green melon, nectarines and honeysuckle contrasting with a more savoury celery salt character. Crisp, full-bodied palate with lifted floral notes.
-
Very good. Review by Isaac Stern (Posted on 04/05/2010)It's an honour to be the first one to review this iconic producer. To start with, it was not as weird as I expected judged by other people's impressions. Nose was a bit closed but after double decanting it opened up beautifully. Honey, tangerines, apricots and lemon were evident on the palate with a bit of smokiness. Finish was very long.
The price is a bit of a problem but I guess it's reasoned on scarcity. -
Lovely stuff. Review by Colin Bubb (Posted on 04/05/2010)My auntie bought me one of these for my 35th birthday. Notes: cherries, vanilla, and oak spice aromas. Brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and a light citrus in the mouth.

Excellent QPR Review by Athena Tergis (Posted on 01/05/2010)I had picked this up randomly from a sale in Waitrose. Far from the thin modest offering I expected, this wine was full and luscious. Tropical fruit, also a lovely mineral quality, a floral, stoney nose if that's possible.

Love and Passion Review by Femme (Posted on 27/04/2010)I just love this beer - I'm drinking it right now. It's quite flavoursome yet very very drinkable. The carbonation is just about right to keep it vibrant but not offensively fizzy.
My only criticism is the price but I suppose it's because it's available by the bottle. -
Needs lot of years to improve... Review by Joséphine Baker (Posted on 27/04/2010)Aggressive tannins and hight level of acidity. Flavours of currants, red apple and black pepper.
-
I am not a sheep Review by BrewDog (Posted on 27/04/2010)Zeitgeist is an idiosyncratic, alternative black lager. It seeks to recreate the spirit, attitude and autonomy of an age gone by. Its inspiration is found more than 200 years ago. It takes an age-old classic, a forgotten masterpiece and gives it relevance and an avant-garde edge
Zeitgeist's edgy attitude extends past that of the name and taste. The bottle's unique look was created by Scottish art student Heather Brennan, who took her inspiration from what she sees as being today's zeitgeist. -
You know, you shouldn't ... Review by BrewDog (Posted on 27/04/2010)A titillating, neurotic, peroxide, punk of a pale ale. Combining attitude, style substance and a little bit of low self esteem for good measure; what would your mother say?
You really should just leave it alone...
...but you just cant get the compulsive malt body and gorgeous dirty blonde colour out of your head. The seductive lure of the sassy passion fruit hop proves too much to resist. All that is even before we get onto the fact that there are no additives preservatives, pasteurization or strings attached. -
Bravo! Review by Françoise Hardy (Posted on 27/04/2010)Wow, it's great to see my favourite Champagne finally available in the UK but the price tag will take some getting used to.

2006 compared to 2005 Review by WZS (Posted on 17/04/2010)is in my opinion inferior, missing the deep choco, hay and stall complexicity of 2005. Is not matured enough and becomes better next day. Still the 2005 is preferable but more and more difficult to purchase.

Thin but well made wine Review by Tu-Tu (Posted on 17/04/2010)A very nice Claret like wine. Dry and sharp - It needs food (we had it with pizza Bianca) - it worked very well. Not to be had on its own.
-
THE VINE / UK Review by Clives COATES (Posted on 14/04/2010)Perfumed on the nose. Very rich, almost sweet. Fullish. A little tannin. This has good grip and depth. 100 % Grenache. Not really very stylish. Too sweet, too artificial. 2001-2004.
-
To be honest ... Review by Yardbird (Posted on 12/04/2010)The nose is fresh with notes of red fruits and some herbs. The attack on the palate is immediate with flavours of sour cherries and blueberries and funnily emough some olives. Slightly tart. The finish is long. On the whole the wine is a bit one-dimensional.

Robert Parker 92 points Review by Plamen (Posted on 12/04/2010)The 2006 Tignanello is especially opulent in this vintage. Masses of dark red fruit, scorched earth and sweet oak emerge as this richly-textured Tignanello flows from the glass. The wine possesses superb density; all it needs is another few years to come together. This is a remarkably vibrant and primary Tignanello. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. This is a beautiful set of wines from Antinori. All of these new releases are dense, primary and endowed with tons of fruit. At the same time, the firm tannins require at least a few years of aging to allow them to start melting away. The estate’s 2006s are beautiful, but they don’t appear to possess the elegance of the superb 2004s.

It lacks definition. Review by Adama (Posted on 07/04/2010)The colour is young and dense. The rim is somewhat purplish. The nose opens on plums, then concentrated fruit, black cherries. Alcohol arises which makes the nose unpleasant. The mouth is full, it has a lot of tannins, they are powerful but somewhat dry. It lacks definition.

Nelson Sauvignon Blanc Review by Atop (Posted on 07/04/2010)The typical grass and gooseberries on the nose. It's rather crisp and as opposed to the Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs it is very dry. Long with grassy notes following through and some minerality.

Artisanal Review by M.Roy Pithey (Posted on 06/04/2010)During one of my recent visits to France, I came across the word « artisanal » and I had thought that this meant « hand made », however, today, after visiting Baron de Sigognac, I think that it means a lot more than just that. In fact, when one hears two men, father and son, tasting an Armagnac from the barrel, who look at each other as if they have discovered life’s great secret and who quietly say « This one will be fantastic in 20 years … », one feels the tingle of goosebumps as you realise the deep passion that inspires these magicians in their life’s quest.

Simply wonderful Review by the broker (Posted on 31/03/2010)loads of dark cherries summer fruits.Rich and smouth full of flavour great legs and nose that leap from the glass. A real find.

Antonio Galloni (The Wine Advocate) - 90 Points Review by Plamen (Posted on 29/03/2010)The 2008 Lachryma Christi del Vesuvio Rosso (Piedirosso) bursts from the glass with an intoxicating, heady array of bacon fat, smoke, tar, ash and dark red cherries. Despite its deceptive, mid-weight style, this dark brooding wine offers tons of complexity and personality. Though quite beautiful texturally, the strong aromas and flavors might not be for everyone, but paired with the right foods – such as grilled meats – the wine should drink beautifully. This is a gem from Mastroberardino. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.

Nice Pinot Review by Rick (Posted on 24/03/2010)Nice Pinot with earthy tones, some fruit and minerality. Medium tannins. Well balanced with good acidity and a nice fruit mouthfeel and finish. Shows potential for ageing.
Too expensive though. -
Jane McQuitty, The Times, February 2010 Review by Admin (Posted on 24/03/2010)From the less successful run of lower and zero alcohol offerings, the only one I found worth drinking is the 0.5% Torres Natureo.
-
Full, rich mouth feel Review by nemsis (Posted on 22/03/2010)I'd drink this one anytime, the complexity alone makes it worth sampling and enjoyng

Admirable from nose to finish Review by Sonny Clark (Posted on 22/03/2010)Creamy, malty, and full-bodied, the Sierra Nevada Stout is satisfyingly rich. Caramel and Black malts give the Stout its deep, dark color and pronounced roasted flavor.
-
A classic Review by Otto (Posted on 20/03/2010)Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, is a delightful interpretation of a classic style. It has a deep amber color and an exceptionally full-bodied, complex character. Generous quantities of premium Cascade hops give the Pale Ale its fragrant bouquet and spicy flavor.
-
A potent liquor Review by Plamen (Posted on 19/03/2010)Mild chocolate malt, with a little caramel and raisin character. The taste is wonderful, the sweetness is there, but really doesn't bother me, soft carbonation and silky mouthfeel.
-
Love this wine Review by Paul (Posted on 19/03/2010)Quirky yet delicious, reminds me of the experience of trying the first Chateau Musar.

Wine of the week with Jancis Robinson Review by Plamen (Posted on 10/03/2010)The colour is like a warm ruby, not especially dense but bright and truly red, without blue or purple tones, even though it is still a young wine. The aromas are charming: fragrant wild strawberries and the merest hint of candied orange peel and light spice, maybe nutmeg or cinnamon. The polished texture is silky but definite, with a fine balance of clear fruit and structure (tannins and acidity) to give it depth and length. It has that lovely sweetness of fruit that you get from the best examples of Pinot Noir (though it doesn't taste like Pinot) and the same apparent lightness and freshness even though it fills the mouth with flavour and scent, and just 12.5% alcohol. It is unoaked, complex and layered, juicy but not simple. Simply delicious.

Stunning, lovable and delicious. Review by Nobody (Posted on 10/03/2010)I have tried this one alongside the IL FRAPATTO made by the daughter of Giusto Occhipinti, who owns winery COS, Arianna Occhipinti. I must say I prefer the daughter's wine. It had lush raspberry aromas and an earthy funk on the nose. More raspberries on the palate, sour cherries and cranberries.Fresh, pure and acidic.

The best non-alcoholic wine I've ever come across Review by Zoon (Posted on 06/03/2010)It is like dry Moscato d'Asti only in technical terms it's an off-dry wine. Citrus, green apples and grapes. Very pleasant. I can smell barbeque smoke and sizzling summer days when I think of this wine.
-
Top Review by Cellar (Posted on 03/03/2010)Very reasonable price and speedy delivery by Zelas. Thank you.
My notes on the wine: Intense, deep cherry colour. Spices, vanilla, cumin, tobacco. Velvety. Mixed flavours of fruits, vanilla, cinnamon, etc. burst on the palate. All underlined by the acidity typical of the top wines from "Ribera del Duero". -
Method Review by MMM (Posted on 03/03/2010)Marjorie Gallet uses an old vertical press to get the juice out of the thick-skinned grapes. With a gentle pressing and a very light racking off she gets both the purity and richness of the juice. The fermentation takes place without any temperature control and lasts from the end of August until early October and occasionally until April. Then the wine remains in tank and barrel for a while just to settle without batonnage or racking in order to keep the purity and spirit of the grapes.

One of the best Gamays Review by Slotovino (Posted on 02/03/2010)This is one of the best Gamays we have ever tasted. It reminded us of the fragrant perfumed Cot (Malbec) of Marionnet ('Vinifera') non greffe also from the Loire. At 11% this is living proof that intense taste is not dependent on intense alcohol. So we can drink away without fear of hangover or gaining weight as in the case of wines of 14% or more.On the subject of hangovers, we reckon ABV is like the Richter scale: 14% is twice as bad as 13.5%. In other words, incremental. A recent article in 'Decanter' managed to discuss and defend alcohol levels without considering the effect on the consumer. Wierd.

Full bodied red Review by Tiny (Posted on 02/03/2010)Classic SA Bordeaux blend. Full with fruit and smoke on the nose. Very French with a bit more sweetness. A great bottle of wine but too much oak. Don't think I'll buy it again.

Review by Jamie Good Review by Plamen (Posted on 01/03/2010)Cos Frappato 2008 Sicilia. This is a fantastic wine: fresh, vibrant, joyful and perfumed with lovely cherry fruit. Really pure and focused, without any heaviness, but there’s seriousness underneath all the fun.

Not bad Review by Luke (Posted on 28/02/2010)At the first sip the wine stays quite watery, the nose is perfect though with typical “natural” characteristic, slight barnyard, cherries, herbs, sea salt, same cabbagey notes. The next day surprisingly it had gained weight and structure. Very enjoyable wine which needs a bit of time and shaking up to open.
-
Weird + Good = Magical Review by Plamen (Posted on 13/02/2010)If this is what natural wine is all about, then I'm a convert. At first it smells a bit weird but then it reveals a whole array of aromas. On the palate it's lengthy and unlike Argentinean Malbec is has complex character and finesse.
-
95% Tempranillo and 5% Graciano and Mazuelo. Review by Freind (Posted on 13/02/2010)Cherry-ruby colour. Balanced, nuances of black currant on the palate, good structure and persistence. This wine comes from vines that are 20 years of age.
-
Holiday flavours Review by Ricardo (Posted on 13/02/2010)Quintessential Marlborough Sauvignon, the nose exhibits intensity of herbal and exotic hints of guava and elder flower. Balanced by the floral notes of geranuim, gooseberry and figs, as well as tropical fruits - passion fruit and honeydew melon in particular. Maybe it was a wishful thinking, but the first sip was like one of those exotic tropical fruit cocktails at a swim-up bar - 'holiday flavours'. The weighty palate and exquisitely soft texture is rounded out with layers of fresh acidity. Delicious medley of tangy citrus and minerality from the Isabel terroir.
-
What a smacker! Review by Whiffy (Posted on 13/02/2010)Brilliant, chewy, fruity wine that insists on being drunk. Its the best wine we drank in 2009 although its pricey. If you like Ribero this is a great example.
-
Not ready Review by Darwin Noguera (Posted on 09/02/2010)This wine needs time... a lot of time. At this point it needs some bottle time to mellow out the harsh tannins.
-
Not such a bad idea. Review by GR (Posted on 01/02/2010)This is a crisp white medium dry wine, with a good nose and light tingle on the taste buds. Equally pleasant to sip on its own or with cañapes, pastas, fish, or cheese.
-
A light and fruity white Review by Plamen (Posted on 29/01/2010)I tasted Natureo in September, with the great man himself, at his restaurant. I was amazed at the depth of flavour and length of fruit on the palate – bearing in mind that it is only half a percent in alcohol.

Stunning Cabernet Franc Review by BioVin Enthusiast (Posted on 23/01/2010)The palate is concentrated, with very round tannins. It exudes power and elegance of the Cabernet Franc.
Located in Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil on the slopes of the town bordering forest, and Cyril Fabien Boisard cultivate their vines on 9 acres in the purest respect for the land. They have vines 20 to 55 years on various soils which enables them to develop fine vintage in certified organic crop, they now use the methods of biodynamics. -
2008 Torres ‘Natureo’, 0.5%vol, Spain Review by Plamen (Posted on 22/01/2010)This is so low in alcohol that it isn’t officially wine at all. Made from muscat, it is fully fermented after which the alcohol is removed. Fresh, fruity and grapey with hints of apple and peach, it is surprisingly tasty, if a bit short on the finish.

Our wedding red wine Review by Bill Evans (Posted on 12/01/2010)We had this for our wedding on the recommendation from our local wine shop and all guests kept asking us where we got it from. It is full of red fruits, well balanced, juicy and simply amazing red wine. Well integrated oak.
I know many people will have not heard of Moldovian wines but I urge you to be more adventurous. -

Very good but pricey Review by Gin Maniac (Posted on 08/01/2010)I tried William Chase's potato vodka in bar in Manchester and was curious if they had done a good job on the Gin too. The have indeed. This Gin is excellent - smooth, elegant yet it is crispy that distinguishes itself from all others. It is best served chilled, neat.

Value wine of 2009 Review by Tempanillo (Posted on 08/01/2010)I bought a case of this for X-mas last year and we enjoyed every bottle. It is fresh, fruity and yet it drinks like a far more complex wine that the price suggests. RECOMMENDED.

Splendid! Review by BlueTouch (Posted on 06/01/2010)The flagship winery of the Vouvray appellation, the Huet vineyard is today led by biodynamics practitioner Christmas Pinguet. Respect of the soil and the plant results in the top wines of concentration and elegance.

Discovery Review by CL (Posted on 06/01/2010)Dark colored, full bodied, and intense. Duras is perfect match to the terroir of Gaillac.
-
Excellent - five stars. Review by Scottish (Posted on 06/01/2010)A bottle of wine from very old mountain vineyards cultivated in organic farming. Tintori di Tramonti is an ancient native grape variety from Campania, recovered by Alfonso Arpino and his family. This is a wine with ruby colour, clear. The mouth corresponds with the nose perfectly with spices and flowers. Sweet tannins, sharp and precise.
-
Vinous Orgasm Review by Freezing (Posted on 31/12/2009)Really broad and attractive. Honeyed and nutty with enough minerals. Serious age-worthy wine.
-
Remarkable! Review by barman (Posted on 31/12/2009)Perfect for fruit-forward cocktails or herbal concoctions such as the classic campari-and-gin-based negroni.
-
Nice Review by Rott (Posted on 27/12/2009)Ripe blackberry, with chalky mouthfeel, provencial herbs and a fairly tannic finish. I am a little suprised by the ripeness, but it is reeled in by the minerals and tannins.
-
Clever little wine Review by Brad (Posted on 27/12/2009)I sometimes really enjoy inexpensive and unpretentious but well made wines. This one is one of those, singing from the first to the last glass. The only fault I found is that it tends to completely oxidise the following day.
-
Rioja Review by Val (Posted on 27/12/2009)Ordered this as a Christmas gift for my brother. He called me yesterday to tell me how much he enjoyed this Rioja. Might buy some for myself to try.

Unusual and celebrated Review by Metro London (news paper) (Posted on 15/12/2009)With the GIN renaissance in its elements, why not bestow your foodie beau with an unusual and celebrated juniper-based beverage from a micro distillery? Sacred Gin in Highgate has made only a few thousand rare bottles but Ian Hart, the distiller, is winning acclaim galore among chefs and drinks pundits.

The story Review by Mark Kauffman (Posted on 10/12/2009)To produce the worlds finest vodka Mark decided on certain selection criteria. First, it should come from only one vintage when the finest wheat grains are identified and selected prior to meticulous multiple distillation. When choosing the wheat grains Mark selected the seven best for the production of wheat regions in Russia. Within each of these regions a single field was chosen. The choice of regions will vary from year to year depending on the quality of wheat production. Second, to ensure consistency, guarantee quality, and retain continuity of style there should be only one bottling per vintage. Third, strictly limited quantity should be produced and only in the years when the grain quality justifies the production of the luxury vodka. Thus, only 25,000 bottles of Kauffman Luxury Vintage Russian Vodka with each bottle carrying the limited edition bottle number are produced annually. Finally, Mark worked with the worlds most innovative designer to produce a bottle which would incarnate Russia's future rather than its past. This bottle is a symbol of modern Russia - the country that is integrating with the rest of the world and is truly becoming one of the Global Powers. The packaging is truly inspirational and contributes to the idea of the product of the XXI century.

Incredible wine but pricey Review by Dit (Posted on 09/12/2009)It seems the wine buyer has a good taste but the company has a good appetite for prices too. If you can afford it though, it's an excellent wine. I bought in Munchen, Germany for about eight euros.

Just the opposite Review by Trinch (Posted on 09/12/2009)Regarding the first poster I'd like to say that I found this no so new-wordly as he/she suggests. The wine is in fact quite restrained in terms of fruitiness with exactly the right amount of acidity. I like it a lot.

This is a brilliant wine Review by Matt (Posted on 07/12/2009)It has a smoky, minerally, almost salty nose with some nuttiness and a bit of burnt match reduction. The palate is dry, savoury and intensely mineral with a long, nutty, broad finish.

My favourite Review by Polo (Posted on 30/11/2009)I don't know what wine the previous poster tasted but I though Arzuaga Crianza 2006 to be even better than all previous ones I've tried (2004, 2001) - Spice, dried cherry, fresh cranberry, violet, plums. Excellent wine! Buy a full bottle don't waste it on the halves.

Gutturnio Review by Pyrene (Posted on 22/11/2009)The wine-making traditions of the hills of Piacenza date back to Etruscan times, even though eating grapes were already cultivated in this area in prehistoric times. Gutturnio’s ancestor, Kilkevetra, was also appreciated by the Romans, so much so that Pliny included it among the eighty best wines in Italy. During the Renaissance the wines of Piacenza appeared on the tables of Popes, noble houses - from the Sforza to the Visconti - and artists of great fame: Michelangelo Buonarroti loved them to the point of never being without them.
Gutturnio, so-called because of the archaeological find near Piacenza of a “gutturnium”, a silver goblet or cup from Roman times, is an important addition to the table: its intense colour already reveals its clean, slightly sweet taste, which makes it harmonise perfectly with the culinary traditions of the Piacenza region. The vines which produce it are Barbera and Bonarda, which came to the hills of Piacenza from the Piedmont. -
1st bottle was good, 2nd was amazing Review by Mresta (Posted on 20/11/2009)Just moved to Highgate and discovered Wine of Course, since we never had Portuguese wine, we thought we'd give this a go on a whim. Proved excellent the first time we had it, so decided to buy another bottle the next week.
Not sure if they came from the same barrel, but the second bottle was divine. -

I'd like to see some snob try that Review by Santy (Posted on 19/11/2009)The dominant flavor was black cherry, but I did taste bubble gum, garlic and paprika. Actually, it tastes kind of like a sour chicken
-
Love it! Review by Rick (Posted on 19/11/2009)It's crisp and very fruity. Aromas and flavours of black cherries and a touch of spice on the finish. Medium body. Cheers!

After having tasted it Review by Archie (Posted on 19/11/2009)We received our order earlier today, exactly on the release data and cracked a bottle open. The wine is fantastic, by the way, it has the typical Beaujolais Nouveu aromas but in the mouth it tastes like a more developed wine. I bet this one will actually age for a couple of years.
For those concerned with the price on the whole I think it's not that bad considering that we order enough for a free delivery. Happy with the service too. -
Excellent Review by Fred (Posted on 18/11/2009)I'm writing from Odenas in the Beaujolais area. Vin Nouveau this year is magnifique.

Only the demented would pay this price Review by Virginia (Posted on 18/11/2009)However good the new Beaujolais, this has to be a rip off price. Going over to France in a couple of weeks and we'll find bottles there for maximum of £3.50
-

Easy to use Review by Lecturer (Posted on 14/11/2009)I purchased the French winemap two months ago for my wine tasting courses. All of my customers comment that it's the easiest to understand winemap. It covers the basics of a particular region without too much clutter.

It needs time! Review by Muswell Soph (Posted on 10/11/2009)On the basis of the 2005/6 vintages and reports of a good 2007 I'd hope this was a really good wine - I bought a case to keep after falling in love with it two years ago. When it's ready expect chocolate and tobacco as well palate clinging fruit. I wouldn't touch it (2007) until at least 2011 but it should be worth the wait. Classy stuff.

-
Love potion Review by Iskra S. (Posted on 03/11/2009)Aromas of apples, lemon and honey, which transform into buttery, biscuit-like scents as the wine aerates. The wine is good as an aperitif, or along with light starter dishes of veal, sweetbreads or crab
-
Exttraordinary for the money Review by Brio (Posted on 03/11/2009)In Washington state they have the same environment as in Burgundy. This is a perfect Chardonnay with food and on its own. Lovely acidity and minerality. The oak is there but not too intrusive. We might order more towards x-mas.
-
Good Year Review by Franck (Posted on 03/11/2009)I am really surprised about the small of shops that sell this wine. Vintage 2009 has been absolutely outstanding throughout France so I can't wait to try the first wine from it.

Just a question Review by Ray (Posted on 31/10/2009)Looks good but is it suitable for high quality print?
-
Great wine that will broaden your mind Review by Nell (Posted on 27/10/2009)I had this recently at the Swan in West Malling, Kent. Don't be put off by the oxidised deep straw colour, it's fresh and gloriously complex, at first fino like nose, then this lifts and some fruit and a lovely fresh lightness appears on the palate - the 14% alcohol is worn lightly, as is the richness. Very satisfying and complex drink. I couldn't give it 5 stars as it's pricey and the first bottle was definitely maderised but the wine waiter was on the ball and replaced it without any fuss.
-
Unusual ... Review by Vizende (Posted on 26/10/2009)... but great Sancerre. Perfect balance between fruit and acidity.

Very full-bodied and broad on the palate Review by Wino (Posted on 24/10/2009)A little too "hot", but there's lots of fresh fruit and racy acidity. The silky tannins frame the fruit nicely. Lovely wine but not the best vintage.

Vintage 2004 Review by Gego (Posted on 15/10/2009)The Quintessence is from old vines (40 to 50 years) Castle Pesquié. A blend dominated by Syrah (80%) and supplemented by the Grenache, which undergoes aging for 12 months in oak barrels which 60% is renewed annually. In its new format, highly stylized, this "essence" has a flavour profile and alcohol so hot that I had to check the label to make sure that this was a 2004 not a 2003 . Fifteen percent! Not surprisingly, the aromas of plum and licorice have the warmth and alcohol. No wonder, either, that the mouth is too hot, monolithic, alcoholism and tiresome. Where are the freshness and purity of the wonderful 2000? What may well have pushed the family boiler force the hand at this point? Was it really necessary to produce a wine too little refreshing and digestible in a vintage potentially beneficial? It must be said, nonetheless, after a lengthy stay in the wine decanter is a little more harmony, leaving a glimmer of hope for the future ..

Section 94 Review by Sue Courtney (Posted on 09/09/2009)“…..from a special block on the Dog Point vineyard. This light honey-gold coloured wine is smoky and just a little earthy with a very subtle steely character and funky wild yeast scents. It's impressively ripe and fruit-sweet in the palate yet earthy, nutty and savoury with sizzling intense fruit reminiscent of tropical guava and kiwi berry and always sauvignon's distinct pungency. It finishes dry, funky and steely with the satisfying glow of after love. An incredible wine, it's so different, so way out there and on the edge.”
-
Smooth and juicy! Review by Robert (Posted on 07/09/2009)I used to drink a lot of Mavrud from Assenovgrad when I was working in Bulgaria in 2004 and this Mavrud shows exactly what this little known grape is capable of - the smoothness of a Nebiollo with the structure of a top Claret.

Ton of flavours Review by Grettarro (Posted on 03/09/2009)What distinguishes Cerasuolo di Vittoria from straight forward Nero D'Avola is the addition of Frappato. If you're looking for a different type of Italian wine experience this is the one.

Excellent Douro Review by Zahil (Posted on 02/09/2009)ESTEVA has a ruby red colour. The aromas and flavors reminiscent of ripe red fruit, with resin and floral aromas typical of the varieties. The wine also shows a buttery complexity, from the blend of several varieties of the Douro and the evolution in the bottle. In the mouth it has a good balance between the smoothness of the Tinta Barroca, and the body, persistence and elegance of Touriga Franca. Overall it is a very pleasant wine ideal to enjoy young but will evolve positively in the bottle for 4-5 years.
-

Mauzac Blanc Review by WineGeek (Posted on 22/08/2009)Properly known as Mauzac Blanc. White grape found only in the southern areas of France. Ripens late, so frost can be a problem in cooler climates. Used primarily for making dry and sweet sparkling wines that can be very good if done in the better Methode Champenoise. The better examples have a unique dried apple character to them that can be quite pleasant. Often blended with Chenin Blanc. The best examples come from Gaillac and Limoux, where it is known as Blanquette.

Too young, maybe? Review by Rick (Posted on 20/08/2009)Casa Lapostole makes the famous Chilean wine Apalta so I trust this wine will improve in the next 2-3 years but for now it only shows high acidity and harsh tannins.

Generous wine Review by Travis (Posted on 18/08/2009)Aromas of aniseed, menthol and fennel reminded of my time spent exploring the beautiful rolling hills of Clare Valley.

Bright and zippy Review by Sam (Posted on 18/08/2009)I don't entirely agree with the previous review as I know this producer and their vintage 2005 of this wine was spectacular! I am sure this vintage 2007 is also good as it was a good year in California.

Bergerie de la Bastide Blanc Review by Sarah (Posted on 18/08/2009)We tried this wine last year during our holiday in Avignon in a local restaurant, it was recommended by the waiter! It's a typical wine from the area with lots of citrus fruit aromas and the price seems acceptable. Might come back! ;-)

Clean acidity Review by Italian Lover (Posted on 15/08/2009)If you ever wondered what a classic Orvieto Classico :-) should taste like - try this! Could do with a pound less in the price tag though!

Fresh and Tangy Review by NYC (Posted on 15/08/2009)Antinori family seem to have spread their wings all over Italy. I prefer their other Orvieto, San Giovanni, but this one is ok for the money!

Biodynamic Champagne! Review by R&M (Posted on 13/08/2009)The village of Courteron is closer to Burgundy than capital of Champagne Reims hence the very Burgundian feel of the bubly wine. Dry as a Chablis!

Plush Review by Ricardo (Posted on 12/08/2009)It's amazing how these kiwi Pinots are unstoppable in taking their share of the market. The Felton road Pinot is good alternative to Burgundy for people who enjoy a rich and plush Pinot Noir but will it age? Good at twenty five pounds.

Winemaker's notes Review by Winemaker (Posted on 10/08/2009)Colour: Brilliant, bright and intense with a medium-rich dark colour.
Aroma: This wine has all the characteristics of a well-matured Graciano grape variety. Well-combined with touches of mint and spices. Very rich in nuances.
Palate: This wine has a nice, strong passage through the mouth. Wide, potent, rich, well-balanced with vibrant acidity and with a long and persistent finish. -

-
Not sure... Review by RickT (Posted on 14/07/2009)In you description it says "Classic Napa Cabernet" but I found this one to be more of a Claret-like Cabernet Sauvignon than classic Cal Cab. Also it showed a bit one-dimensional but still a good wine. Tasted 22-Dec-2008

Elegant and refined Review by Bobby (Posted on 13/07/2009)The 2005 Solaia is elegant and refined, yet it remains incredibly primary. Still, it is hard not to admire the wine's layered expression of blue and black fruits. The oak remains prominent, but I am confident the wine will come together with bottle age. The Solaia vineyard is one of the most unique terroirs in Italy, and the wine has a track record of developing beautifully in bottle, even in smaller vintages. It will be fascinating to follow this Solaia as it matures. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2023. Score - 93. (Antonio Galloni, www.erobertparker.com, June 2008)

Kanu Chenin Blanc Review by Wine Advocate (Posted on 05/07/2009)An offshoot of Mulderbosch, Kanu sources their 2007 Chenin Blanc largely from mature, dry-farmed, head-pruned vines. Sophistication of harvesting and vinification is evident in this wine’s ability to retain clarity and freshness and offer luscious melony fruit laced with pungent herbs, cress, and citrus zest but without treading too bitter a finishing path. I found this rather Sauvignon-like, a feature to which its 10% Sauvignon and 2% Viognier might be contributing. (I found Kanu’s late-harvested Chenin overly candied and unconvincing.)
Score: 86. —David Schildknecht, August 2008. -

Liquid Chocolate Review by GeorgeTT (Posted on 10/06/2009)Very good Cab Sauv!!! Wished I had bought another bottle in 2008 when the price was 35 quid.

Very enjoyable Review by Christ (Posted on 10/06/2009)The volcanic soils on the slopes of Vesuvius are perfect for vine growing, thanks to the good drainage of the lava soil and excellent exposure to the sun.
Bright ruby red with some purple tinge. Fresh and sweet smell, red cherry at the right degree of ripeness, very candid. The palate is still quite fresh, tannic and with the taste of cherry with a slight almond note. -
Dionysos is a strange god. Review by God (Posted on 10/06/2009)Although he is best known as the god of wine, he is also a vegetation deity, a god of the liquid element, a death god, a god who comes into and changes, often irrevocably, the normal community life, and lastly the god of the theatre. His role as vegetation deity is obvious; he introduced the grapevine and taught the secrets of its cultivation and of fermenting wine. He is also associated with the fir tree and with ivy-- his symbol the thrysus, which his worshippers carry, is a branch or stalk of fennel tipped with ivy leaves or sometimes a pine cone. He is often paired with Demeter, goddess of grain.

Special Memories Review by AJ (Posted on 09/06/2009)In 2002, "Il grande sommelier" Nando Papa sourced for me and my wife for our wedding meal what he described in our menu as "Nebbiolo Val dei Preti 1997 Matteo Corregia". We recall being stunned by the wine, and promptly bought a case or 5 back to the UK from him in Italy. Since then, I have failed to find the wine again. If this is half as good a year, your taste buds will adore you!
-
Ageworthy Review by Mountain (Posted on 19/05/2009)The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and concentrated, with tiers of currant, plum and black cherry fruit. Toasty oak picks up hints of mocha and espresso. The wine is well balanced, with a long finish that shows firm, structured tannins and a touch of mineral. The rich, concentrated fruit with elegance and refinement makes this wine ageworthy.

One for the summer Review by Tin R (Posted on 18/05/2009)Very interesting, half way between fermented grape juice and something light and sparkling. Very enjoyable, clean and refreshing after it settles in the glass. Ideal for sipping in the garden on a Sunday afternoon! Perfect summery drink. Highly recommended!

Lovely and weird! Review by John V (Posted on 07/05/2009)I tasted this wine on the Real Wine 2009 and it was absolutely taken by its unusulness. Also read about it on the internet too and decided to search for it. Highly recommended.

The best NV champagne so far Review by Arto K. (Posted on 28/04/2009)Exceptional champagne from the Southern part of the region. Full of both ripeness and delicate acidity, balance and depth, Fleury is a beautiful example of small scale champagne. This is what all the industrial brands should taste like!
-
Truly solid NV champagne Review by Arto K. (Posted on 28/04/2009)Quality champagne with simply delicious taste profile. Elegant wine that commands to take another sip. Traditional yet exceptional and in my books almost as good as Fleury, which is a must to anyone in search for NV champagne with riper flavors.

An excellent value!!! Review by Trevor (Posted on 24/04/2009)This is a fuller style of Champagne with lower yet crisp acidity. Not only you will enjoy it's vibrancy from the bubble but you will get a proper wine underneath. Something rare and very nice.

Tight and mineral Review by Roger (Posted on 23/04/2009)I find the style of this producer a bit tight and quite mineral in youth, the wines were made to be age-worthy, I guess. With the coming summer I think this sancerre rose might be just perfect for late afternoon sipping in the garden even it's still so young.
-
Approachable & delicious yet well structured wine from Priorat region Review by Arto K. (Posted on 21/04/2009)Jammy nose with some blackberry pie notes, leather in the background, and balanced oakiness. Mouthwatering full bodied taste with nicely acrid acidity structure that keeps the luscious fruitiness successfully in check. Good QPR!

Impressive wine! Review by Nigel (Posted on 17/04/2009)Prophet’s Rock is a newcomer to the burgeoning Central Otago wine scene, and since its début 2005 vintage this small winery has been making big waves. Its twin secrets of success are superbly located and lovingly tended vineyards, and the talents of winemaker Paul Pujol. Having made wine for top estates in New Zealand, Alsace and Oregon, he is ideally placed to deliver world-class Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir from this exceptional fruit.
-
OK Review by Raven (Posted on 17/04/2009)Nothing spectacular. Maybe a good bottle for a more casual wine drinker.

Excellent Review by Bobby (Posted on 14/04/2009)Aromas of citrus, pineapple and pear, lifted by sweet oak vanillin. It is well-structured on the palate with a lingering finish.
Food Suggestions:
Grilled and stewed fish, stuffed pasta, roasted white meats. -
Excellent value Review by John R. (Posted on 14/04/2009)Deep ruby color. Notes of licorice, spice, and white pepper. The wine has lots of layers, plenty of flavors, a real treat for the palate.

Impressive Review by John R. (Posted on 13/04/2009)A soft, approachable red with juicy ripe berry fruit, ripe tannins and a silky finish.
-
**** Review by Ram G. (Posted on 13/04/2009)Although the first notes are of mocha and vanilla, a very pure cassis is hiding in the background, and the full, sweet entry fills out to a satisfying mid-palate, leading to a long, smooth finish.
-
A wine of substance and character that will age nicely. Review by Daniel (Posted on 13/04/2009)Fresh herb and fruit, leaves, tea, wild spices and stunning complexity with bright acidity and graceful tannins that sashay through the finish.
-
An exceptionally satisfying drop for the money. Review by Ram G. (Posted on 13/04/2009)There's no excess of tannins or acidity.
Surprisingly dense for its youth, it's simply delicious. -

Full flavoured with good acidity Review by Emil (Posted on 11/04/2009)Attractive plum, cherry and berry aromas and notes balanced by tropical fruit, with hints of provincial herbs. On the palate flavors of black tea, and dark chocolate.

Charming Review by Ray L. (Posted on 10/04/2009)Fruity aroma mingles apples, lime, yeast, shortbread, smoke, almonds, and toast; expansive mousse with fine bubbles complete the picture.

Much nicer than aged port Review by Rob (Posted on 10/04/2009)Occasionally I indulge me an my guests with a dessert wine and this time I wanted to try something new, thanks to Plamen for recommending it to me. Well, the results were phenomenal - everyone loved it! normally the guests reaction to port is that is a bit too heavy and the cherry is a bit too sweet. No complains this time!
A very nicely balanced dessert wine! -
There is nothing unpleasant about this wine Review by Adam (Posted on 09/04/2009)The finish is relatively long and brings the herbal characteristics from the nose into the back of the palate. Overall, it’s an interesting, medium-bodied wine that will pair very well with foods.
-
Enjoyable Review by Rue (Posted on 09/04/2009)The nose has jammy blackberry and plum aromas, along with some salami and leather aromas. All told, it’s not a bad wine, but it is lacking some complexity.
-
Drinkable Review by Matt (Posted on 09/04/2009)For a wine under £10, this wine is delightfully drinkable.
-
Elegant Review by Nick (Posted on 09/04/2009)The bouquet is elegant with freshness and a soft acidity landing to a clean, dry finish.
Generous and elegant for a wine of its price. -
**** Review by John B. (Posted on 09/04/2009)Medium ruby; complex, mature varietal aroma with red cherries, vanilla, kirsch, some leather, dust and barnyard notes.

Unmistakably French Review by Billy (Posted on 05/04/2009)Very Burgundian in style with a more Rhone-like sensibility to the structure, Rayas springs to mind.

My first bottle from Château Pesquié. Review by Alberto (Posted on 05/04/2009)Surprisingly good southern Rhone red. Good balance of fruit, lively acidity and old world character with a little smokiness and wood.
Consistently great QPR for the money. -
Amazing QPR Review by Alberto (Posted on 05/04/2009)Thanks to Zelas for putting this winery in my scope!
Decanted for few hours. Smooth with dark fruit and bitter nut. Full flavoured with notes of floral sweetness. Long finish. A very nice drink. -

Fruitastic! Review by Bally (Posted on 31/03/2009)This is a review for the '07:
so much fruit, you could be on an allotment in August. Head back, eyes closed, palate ripened and I could have been in Chile (don't that put you off you Chilephobes!). This is a tongue tingling, juicy, ripe fruit bomb and I admit drunk too early. There's some earthiness to the background of fruit and fine tannins, complexity too but this needs to settle down. My wife Ruth found this all a bit too much and struggled to drink a glass. have not tried the '06 but really interested to see how a year may have affected the tasting to what should have been a better vintage anyway ('06). But buy it, however NOT if you are firmly of the opinion that Italian wines should be about elegance above all. -
Lovely organic wine Review by Tom (Posted on 31/03/2009)This is a lovely organic wine. It slips down really nicely and has a lovely fruity character along with a rounded quality which is really appealing. There's also something really comforting knowing that no sinister chemicals went into making the wine.
-
Delicious Review by Mouse (Posted on 31/03/2009)A rare and delicious organic Champagne!

A question Review by Cat (Posted on 31/03/2009)Can sombody tell me why wines from California tend to be more expensive? Is it just the cost of labour and cost land or the price is also reflected in the price?

Three Clarets Review by Tim (Posted on 29/03/2009)I bought these three wines a week ago for our wedding anniversary and we were really pleasantly surprised. The best of the three is 2005 Antonins but that's to be expected considering the vintage.
-
Would it taste this good if it weren't free? Yes... Review by Martin (Posted on 27/03/2009)I was lucky enough to win this wine in the Wine Quiz.
I was unfamiliar with the producer, and didn't know what to expect - what I found was an elegant, full, aromatic wine, backed up with a slightly orangey acidity. It improved overnight in the bottle, which suggests it might have a way to go... -
Singular Review by Martin (Posted on 27/03/2009)I'd wanted to try Princic's wines for a long time: this exceeded any preconceptions I might have had about them.
Sauvignon Blanc is one of my least favourite white grapes, but this is unlike any Sauvignon Blanc I have ever tasted. I suppose I should have been prepared for that.
Turbid, amber, nutty, ciderish, savoury, nutty, tannic even. Singular and superb. -
A very nice wine, slightly lacking varietal character Review by Martin (Posted on 27/03/2009)I've been drinkning a lot of Pineau d'Aunis recently, and this one has been among the best, but also among the least characteristic.
It is doubtless a perverse personal taste but I love the vegetal, peppery, campari-ish qualities of the grape and am less interested in its production of wines that taste of fruit.
But although this wine was on of the fruitiest P d'As I've had, it was nevertheless absolutely delicious, and went down rather better with my friends than some of the odder wines I've given them recently. -
Perfectly pretty enough Review by Martin (Posted on 27/03/2009)I very much enjoyed drining this wine: that is the most important thing, But it wasn't as exciting as I had hoped,
It is very young, very fresh and very attractive, but that isn't what I am always looking for. The reviewers above have described its qualities perfectly well - they just happen to be things which don't quite satisfy my tastes. -
Better than Pithos? Review by Martin (Posted on 27/03/2009)I ws offered a taste of the 2007 COS Pithos in-store, which Plamen was honest enough to pronounce a little disappointing compared to the previous vintage. He recommended I try this 100% Nero d'Avola instead, and I was very happy I did...
It has the same light-footedness and charm as its amphora-fermented sibling, but was much fuller on the palate, not suffering from the surprisingly abrupt finish of the Pithos.
In short: highly recommended, for those who like refreshing, aromatic, lively wines - i.e. anyone with good taste! -
A feral delight Review by Martin (Posted on 27/03/2009)This is one of the wines that turned me onto Natural Wines.
The importer's advice is to chill and decant the wine, with which I only half agree. The feral, gamy notes which are there on opening subside after half an hour, leaving a crunchily-fruited, refreshing wine which tastes - above all -- alive. Delicious. -
A rare sweet nectar Review by George G (Posted on 25/03/2009)Voluptuous nose with intense fragrances of citrus and flowers and yellow fruits (orange blossom, lemon, grapefruit, melon, quince, lychee, etc ...). Fresh, clean and minerally. This 2005 vintage is one of the largest in Jurançon (and Madiran, Irouléguy, Pécharmant, Bergerac, Cahors and other wines of the south west) . Great bottle!

Super value; extraordinarily quick service. Review by JanLuthman (Posted on 20/03/2009)My first order with Zelas - and I'm very positively impressed.
Instant payment via Paypal (so quick, so easy, instant proof of payment, and goods are insured - if you haven't yet set up with Paypal, try it. I've used Paypal for a few years now, and can recommend it. It takes a few days tol set up an account, and involves establishing a DD on your bank account, but it's well worth the effort).
But, back to Zelas. Zelas price was (then) the lowest anywhere on the web (I use wine-searcher.com). My order was delivered to my door by courier in 48 hours, at no extra charge - on top of low prices, that's a really nice feature! The bottles were in their original case, and the case itself was carefully packed inside another carton. For me, that's another nice feature that I value. I'm lucky enough to have a cellar and, until the time comes to put the bottles up on the racks, I like storing them in their original cases/cartons - a) the originals look much nicer than old brown cardboard boxes, b) they stack better and take up much less space.
So - there you have it - competitive prices; superfast delivery; careful packaging; Paypal payment. Who could ask more?
PS
Oh, and, by the way, Il Bruciato is the baby brother of Guada al Tasso and a really, REALLY nice Tuscan red. Gorgeous blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah (and a smattering of other varietals). Aged 8 months in French oak. The 2006 is already a lovely drink, but (IMHO) should relax and open up and get even better with a couple of years of cellaring (if you haven't got a cellar, keep it under the stairs or at the north end of your garage - but NOT, repeat NOT, in your loft. Summer heat will ruin it).
The 2006 Bruciato got 90 points from Suckling on Wine Spectator - here are his tasting notes:
Subtle and aromatic, with violet and berries on the nose. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and a long, clean, polished finish. The second wine of Guado al Tasso, with a bit more Merlot than the first wine. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and others. Best after 2009. 20,830 cases made. –JS
The much bigger Guado al Tasso is a superb wine, but it will set you back £75-£80 per bottle. The price of Il Bruciato has, unsurprisingly, gone up in recent weeks (due to combination of ultra-strong demand for 2006 Tuscans and weak Sterling vs Euro), but is still only about one fifth the price of its big brother.
Your choice!

Drink it young Review by Naturalist (Posted on 07/03/2009)Hi Trevor,
The wine is bottled and released the spring after harvest and it's meant to be consumed while it's fairly young. In some ways it's almost new world-like with its fruit forwardness and low-level of tannins. It works well on its own by the glass in wine bars and it's all the rage in Paris wine bars and restaurants.
Hi Paul B.,
The slight fizz you detected are light traces of carbonic gas which is naturally produced during the fermentation. The gas serves as a preservative instead of sulphites. I suggest you decant the wine to get rid of this fizz.
Regards

Gorgeous but short-lived Review by Trevor (Posted on 07/03/2009)As long as you consume this wine within 2-3 hours of opening, it is absolutely gorgeous. But If you live for next day, it oxidizes completely and tastes awful.
I don't know why it is so short lived. Could someone from Zelas explain please?
Thank you!

Pleasant, but not exciting Review by Martin (Posted on 06/03/2009)This wine suffered in comparison with the superb Princic Sauvignon which had preceded it.
Simcic's Rubikon doesn't seem blessed with the strongest of characters, though it is a well-made, well-balanced wine, Nuts, some indistinct yellow-fruitedness, a little minerality, but unfortunately forgettable... -
A smooth operator Review by Bubly (Posted on 03/03/2009)Perhaps the smoothest champagne, I've ever had.

Who is Henri Milan? Review by Blogger (Posted on 28/02/2009)There was one white in particular that I loved, a slightly oxidized wine that rang out with oranges and flowers and rocky minerals. Some at the table disliked it, this was a polarizing wine. But it was without question my favorite white wine of the tasting. And lo and behold, it turned out to be the 2007 Domaine Henri Milan Baux de Provence Les Grand Blanc

Excellent service Review by Jonathan R. (Posted on 24/02/2009)I joined up last month and am going to order my second case right now. The service is excellent and the discounts more than generous. I just wished there were more wines to choose from in the welcome case.
Another suggestion if I may, is perhaps have another Wine club for people who would not want necessarily drink only natural wines. There are plenty of other wines here.
Thank you! -
Superb Review by Allan (Posted on 24/02/2009)Domaine Valette is among the absolute top in Macon, the wines are very distinctive and much alive. The house has their own unique style, and in a manner comparable to Marc Angély in Loire.

Unpure Rioja red, with some issues Review by Arto K. (Posted on 22/02/2009)I was rather excited to taste this wine, after all it was an unoaked red from a region more known for overoaking its wines with American wood. Unfortunately the open fruity bouquet with slight tobacco had some nail polishing going on. Unoaked wine should carry its fruit fresh and focused, this one did not. The taste was rather straight forward and a bit flat like, similar to a affordable Valpolicella.
My expectations might have been a bit high with this one, but that doesn't excuse the price of the wine; it'd be better in tune with a price closer to ten than twenty. -
Fabulous Review by Boris (Posted on 21/02/2009)I wanted to take a moment to thank you both for making such great wines available.
I have had the Domaine Henri Milan 2004 (red) and truly enjoyed the taste. I intend to try more of his wines in the future. -
Very very good champagne Review by Jeremy (Posted on 21/02/2009)Full of flavour, a beautiful champagne with a lot of character. Beats any standard NV from the big houses by a mile. Thoroughly recommended, my new favourite after the 96 Bergere ran out!

Madiran for ever Review by Leon (Posted on 18/02/2009)I'd like to disagree with one the reviewers here. This wine does deliver exactly what it is supposed to and more. The Laplace family are one of top producers in the region and this wine is testament to that.

This wine can do no wrong... Review by David (Posted on 13/02/2009)Milan tends for his grapes with loving care. The result is a light red which is nonetheless sophisticated. It was recommended to me by my favourite sommelier, and her reputation is intact in consequence. To Stephanie....

Poor man's Chateauneuf-du-Pape ... maybe Review by Rick (Posted on 12/02/2009)A quote from Issue 131 of The Wine Advocate "may be the richest Cotes du Rhone I have tasted". It's certainly true for this wine!
Good price too! -
Classy refresher. A little pricey but worth it. Review by alexlake (Posted on 12/02/2009)We found it a real pick-me-up zippy number, ideal for dealing with the jaded mood in which we found ourselves. A bit like a cross between Muscadet and Chablis - a lovely minerality almost steely palate but with some generosity of fruit. We're big fans. Expensive, perhaps, but worth it. Excellent

Cracking Macon Review by BurgMan (Posted on 11/02/2009)The vineyard around Chaintré are warmer so the wines are perfect to drink immediately. We thoroughly enjoyed this totally different style of Macon, it's rich and full almost semi-dry but with enough acidity.
-
Unbeatable quality per ratio, thanks in part for the strangeness of Slovenia to the rest of the globe Review by Arto K. (Posted on 11/02/2009)Lovely and powerful scent that contains nuts, minerals, fresh pear and some wet straw, a bouquet that resembles of quality Rhône Viogniers or Mersault of Burgundy. The wine is easy to approach without being dull.
Medium bodied taste has an oily, juicy texture, delicate yet pronounced acidity and a long aftertaste with honey in it. The quality per price is truly excellent, would the wine be from a prominent area of France, we'd be paying double the price, easily. -
Grand Cru Muscadet? Review by Frederik (Posted on 11/02/2009)I must admit I haven't tasted this wine but I've read Pierre Luneau's mission is to make Grand Cru Muscadet. I'd love to hear what other people make of it.

Gutsy Pinot Review by Bally (Posted on 10/02/2009)Don't know why Burgundians would be afraid of this. very expressive nose. Gutsy cherry laden red. Enough acidity to go with food but plenty of body without. Better on second night after opening, more harmonious. Not a pinot with silky charms but one with real bite. Quite chunky for Pinot.
-

Close to semi-dry Review by JavaMan (Posted on 10/02/2009)Nose of pineapple and exotic fruits, yellow fruits with floral notes. In the mouth the wine is a beautiful, fine and pure. Its shows a lot of materiallity too. Nice.
-
A somewhat strange wine Review by Bobby (Posted on 09/02/2009)I have had this wine once before and was curious to try it again. It is like no other Sauvignon Blanc I've ever had. On the nose you get a sherry/oxidative note which makes you wonder if the wine is indeed oxidised. But on the nose you also get honey and some citrus. The wine on the palate reassures you that it is not oxidised, and it is much more enjoyable with vibrant acidity and a sweet citrus which is still at odds with its Sauvignon Blanc roots! I'm not sure I really get this wine but interesting.
-
A well balanced wine Review by Bobby (Posted on 09/02/2009)Interesting nose of dark fruits. Good balance on palate, and decent finish. I didn't get carried away with this wine, but I think its good value.
-
Stunning wine Review by Bobby (Posted on 09/02/2009)I have meant to explore Loire reds more closely in the past, and so with this determination I opened this wine. It is stunner with gorgeous red cherry fruit on nose with hints of spice. On the palate, this wine is so open and accessible with lovely soft tannins and good fruit concentration which leaves a nice lingering finish. As you can probably tell, it is more fruit than perhaps secondary nuance, but I love it for that! I would like to see how these age.
-
Average Review by Bally (Posted on 08/02/2009)some real zip to the acidity. Very little going on on the nose. Some honey and nuttiness on the palate but ultimately a dull wine. Half of the bottle went to make some excellent syrup for the poached pears I did today.

Very Good Review by wine reviewer (Posted on 06/02/2009)This wine tastes a lot better than the name and price imply.
Crisp and minerally, with rich fruit flavours , it's a good value (especially for an organic wine). -
An excellent wine Review by Bobby (Posted on 06/02/2009)Wow, I really love this wine. On the nose, it has tropical fruit notes and a certain beeswax character that obviously comes from the roussanne. On the palate it has good depth and weight with that richness that must also come from the roussanne. I was prepared for a lack of acidity, but it does not come across as flabby at all. Lovely, almost sweet , rich finish that lasts an admirable amount of time. Will definitely buy more.
-
Great Quality Review by Bally (Posted on 03/02/2009)Another stellar offering from TMV.
Slightly stinky nose at first though I like that. Polished sweet/savoury notes, briar fruits. Juicy, good use of oak. Excellent quality though not in the same league as their Syrah and Syrah/V wines.
Great balance from an alcoholic wine.
Second night better: more evolved into a more meaty wine, juicy, herbal. Gvfm at the full price and verygvfm at the 40% off price. I would however, prefer their syrah wines as a first port of call. -
Insipid Review by Bally (Posted on 03/02/2009)thought this would be young so in a Burgundy glass it went for some air treatment. Did not reveal much after a couple of hours. Some vague red fruits maybe. Soft tannins or any? Sweet cranberry type fruit, med body. Insipid, characterless. Short finish. Very expensive at the full price and at any price, I would not buy it again. My Ruth also did not like it; nose screwed up at first impressions. Not faulty. On second night, probably worse if anything so 3/4 bottle down the sink.

Question Review by Paul B. (Posted on 30/01/2009)This wine had a slight fizz when I opened it! Is that a fault or something to do with being natural? Can you please explain?
By the way, it was lovely Saint-Joseph with very distinctive Syrah character. -
Excellent wine for the price Review by vintner09 (Posted on 30/01/2009)I find this wine satisfying, rich tasting and excellent with dinner or just for a relaxing evening.

Review by Chris Kissack - Wine Doctor Review by Plamen (Posted on 27/01/2009)This wine certainly needs an hour or so in a decanter to open up. On inspection it has quite a clean and youthful hue, and also some attractive elements on the nose, in particular a little stony, violet perfumed edge over the dark fruits. The palate shows just a little rounded extract on entry, before it settles back into a fairly lean palate with some overt structure. This is provided by a seam of tannins which are fairly unobtrusive, but also by some fairly prominent acidity which tends to dominate on the palate. This is particularly true towards the finish, which is incisively sharp. This is a very dry style, with just 3 g/l residual sugar; it would be interesting to see some data on the acidity level.

Wow! Review by Someone special (Posted on 28/12/2008)Loved it! I purchased this Champagne a few months ago because I like to have a glass after I come back home from work. My other favourite brand (DP) is too expensive for everyday. The price and the style were right, as well as the cute bottle - it makes a perfect candle stick. For those who don't like Champagne with no Chardonnay in the blend, I highly recommend this one to try. The taste is so fine and delicious!

DELICIOUS! DELICIOUS! DELICIOUS! Review by John-John (Posted on 11/09/2007)You know from time to time we come accross wines with that X factror which remind us why we got into wine in the first place.
Aromas of pear, baked apples and apricot are just part of the entire range of fragrances. On the palate it shows the normal power for a southerner yet mellow without sugar. It has all the assets to satisfy even those who fear it might be on "tip" of some dry white wines.
